Titles & Abbreviations in a GSD Pedigree

Some times it is difficult to read and understand abbreviations of titles and awards mentioned in pedigrees of GSDs. I have made an effort to find and explain those awards and titles. Please read & understand the abbreviations which are frequently used on GSD pedigrees.

German Pedigree Terms

  1. Sieger: The Sieger is the Male winner of the National Championship Conformation (Beauty) show, therefore it is the best Champion for the entire year.
  2. World Sieger: The top German Shepherd in the world.
  3. Siegerin: The Female winner in this Championship
  4. Universal Sieger: This as an annual competition to find the dog that has the best structure (beauty) and the best working (SchH) combined characteristics.
  5. Vice-Universal Sieger: The 2nd place dog in Universal Sieger competition
  6. VA: Select Champion
  7. VA-2: The Vice-Sieger
  8. V: Champion Vorzuglich (Excellent)
  9. SG: Sehr Gut (Very Good)
  10. G: Gut (Good)
  11. VP: Very Promising
  12. SchH and IPO (1, 2 &3): Schutzhund
  13. KKL 1A: Considered to be prime quality breeding prospects
  14. KKL 2A: Considered acceptable for breeding
  15. KKL: Koerklasse
  16. “A”: Means the dog has passed it’s hip certification for Hip Dysplasia in Germany
  17. OFA: Orthopedic Foundation for Animals(fair, good or excellent)

Notes:

  1. Awards for beauty (Championships) are listed before the dog’s official name.
  2. Awards for training accomplishments (Working Titles) are listed after the dog’s official name.
