Suggested Vaccination Protocol For Dogs

I have made an endeavour to prepare a vaccination schedule using Duramune and Hexadog. I am thankful to my veterinary friends for helping me out in this effort. This is just a suggested protocol. Always consult your veterinary doctor before vaccination of your pets. Friends are requested to give their views and input also.

Age 16 Weeks:
3rd Shot Hexadog

Age 1 year 4 Months:
Hexadog Booster
Kennel Cough Booster
(Both boostered annually.)

Notes:-
1. Duramune does not contain Rabies. If 1st shot at 6 weeks age was given of Duramune then rest of the booster shots can be given of Hexadog to cater for Rabies because Hexadog contains Rabies.

2. Deworming: For pups use Combantrin Suspension 5-7cc once in three months and for adults Tab Zantel 2xtabs in 3 months after doing stool examination. Pups should be dewormed every month up till 9 months of age, and there after every 4th month. pyrantel & albendazole are other alternatives for deworming depending upon availability. Deworming be done in the morning empty stomach. Food be served after two hours of deworming.

3. Rabies be boostered after one year for the first time. There after ever third year of the first booster.

4. Rabies vaccine be given at 3 months of age or more.

5. Pups can be vaccinated for the first time at 22 days of age.

6. If dogs are to be exposed to other dogs (groomers, vets, boarding, shows etc) vaccinate them for kennel cough at 10-12months of age. Then booster be given annually.

Rabies:-
Rabies vaccine schedule has been covered above as far as Duramune and Hexadog are concerned. Following shall be considered in case of dog bites:-

1. If a non-vaccinated dog is bitten by rabid dog it should receive 6 injections.
1st On day 1
2nd On day 3
3rd On day 7
4th On day 14
5th On day 21
6th On day 28

2. If a non-vaccinated or vaccinated dog is bitten by unconfirmed or non-rabid dog it should receive 3 shots:-

1st on day 1
2nd on day 5
3rd on day 14

I have formulated above mentioned schedule from my own learning from internet and discussions with my veterinary friends. This is just a guide line. Shall not be followed with out consulting your veterinary doctor.
